Self esteem is what you think of yourself and your abilities and it’s quite normal for this opinion to vary. Sometimes it’s high, sometimes low and there are moments when we don’t know exactly how we feel about ourselves.

Again, there is no surprise that each and every one of us have experienced moments of doubt about ourselves, insecurity or a complete lack of motivation.

There are occasions when we can pinpoint the reason for such feelings, but at times it’s a complete mystery. So, what is it that we can do to improve our self esteem and confidence?

Being Nice To Ourselves

There must have been times when you had to talk to a friend or family member who was feeling down at that particular moment in order to help them feel better about themselves. What you should do when you feel down and out is exactly that.

Speak to yourself in the same way that you’d speak to your friends. Focus on all your positive characteristics and good things you’ve done. You’ll see that it really helps.

Be Active

If you lead a sedentary life, your physical health will deteriorate very quickly and so will your mental health. The less you move, the worse you feel about yourself and the world around you.

Physical exercise is a magnificent way to increase motivation, practise setting goals and build confidence. Not only will your body be in a much better shape, but more endorphins will be released as well, which means you’ll also feel great.

Clothes

Believe it or not, the way you dress can have a great influence on how you feel. It doesn’t have to be any expensive designer clothes, but it has to make you feel comfortable and confident about yourself.

Don’t wear clothes that put you in physical pain, since uncomfortable clothing are known to have a direct negative impact on your charisma.

That’s why you should avoid wearing high-heels or tight dresses, for example, if you feel that the level of discomfort is greater than the level of attractiveness that can be translated into self-confidence.

So, find a great online fashion boutique and select only those items that you find attractive and comfortable and remember that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.

Don’t Have Too High Expectations

We might know this, but we also sometimes forget it: nobody is perfect. What we can do is strive to be the best version of ourselves and accept that perfection is an unrealistic goal.

We mustn’t set unrealistic and unattainable goals, because the inevitable failure to achieve them would only add to our frustration and make us feel even more depressed and uncertain.

Instead, treat each failure as a learning opportunity and make sure you don’t repeat the same mistake. Also, focus on the things you can change. Identify the things that are within your control and deal with them.

It’s Important To Enjoy Yourself

The more we do the things we enjoy, the more likely are we to stay positive. So, if you like reading, listening to music, watching films or cooking, find time to enjoy these activities. That will help you feel better, which will lead to higher self esteem and confidence.

Such activities are also a treat or reward, which will keep us motivated and full of confidence. They can also be seen as celebrations of small successes, such as completing a difficult task at work or getting a good grade in the exam.

Celebrating small victories is a fantastic way to build confidence and start feeling better about yourself.

There are many ways in which you can build your confidence and self esteem and the best thing is that you don’t have to opt for just one.

On the contrary, you should incorporate as many of them as possible to boost your chances of feeling better about yourself. If you do that, your self esteem and confidence will soar and you’ll be a much happier person.
