Self Talk. What Story Are You Telling?

So, what is the story that you’re telling about your life? When someone asks you “how’s it going?” what do you say? It’s almost an automatic reaction to discuss what’s not going so well, after all, we’re bombarded with negative talk all day long.

It’s on the radio while driving to work, it’s on our computers, and it’s in the newspapers, all over the television screen. It’s hard not to get caught up in the negativity that pervades our environment.

Yet, if you’re looking to make a positive change, you cannot allow yourself to continue to tell the same story over and over again.

If you want more money in your life, you cannot continue to talk about lack of money. If you want to lose weight, you cannot continue to speak about how overweight you are. If you want to get well, you cannot keep saying how sick you are.

You don’t have to jump from one extreme to the other here either. I know it’s not easy to say how rich you are when you don’t even have any savings. What you can say instead is that your financial picture is improving every day.

You can say “I feel that my health is improving every day.”

You can state that whatever issue is in need of change is in fact changing for the better every single day. You are telling the story of improvement. This is so much better than continuing to tell the story of lack…whatever that lack may be.
